    What is Monel Alloy?

Monel metal is an alloy of nickel based, mainly composed of nickel (52% to 67%) and copper, and contains small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. (If the copper content is greater than or equal to 60%, the alloy is called cupronickel.)

Monel alloy is stronger than pure nickel and has strong corrosion resistance to a variety of media, including fast-flowing seawater. They can be easily manufactured by hot and cold working, machining, and welding.

     What’s the use of Monel?

Monel alloy is used in marine engineering, chemical and hydrocarbon plants, valves, pumps, shafts, valves, fasteners for the aviation industry, and heat exchangers.

The following provides information on the physical and mechanical properties of these products, the most complete alloy formulation, and product shape range from a single distributor.

The difference between K500 and 400

First of all, the simplest difference is that Monel Metal Alloy K-500 (UNS N05500/ W.Nr. 2.4375) has better corrosion resistance and higher strength and hardness than Monel Metal Alloy 400.

Monel Metal Alloy K500 is made by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper matrix, and heating under controlled conditions can precipitate submicroscopic particles Ni3 (Ti, Al) in the entire matrix, thereby obtaining higher performance. The heat treatment used to achieve precipitation is commonly referred to as age hardening or aging.

Monel alloy nickel-copper alloy 400 (UNS N04400; W.Nr. 2.4360 and 2.4361) is a solid solution alloy that can only be hardened by cold work. It has high strength and toughness in a wide temperature range and can resist most corrosive environments.

So, we can understand Monel Alloy 400 price is lower than Monel Metal Alloy K500 in the same condition.

Differences in nickel composition of different stainless steels
