Engineers often ask: “Which Z grade should I use for thick welded plates?”
≤ 25 mm → Z15: suitable for general building structures
25–40 mm → Z25: ideal for heavy welded joints, bridges
≥ 40 mm / offshore → Z35: required for offshore platforms and critical load structures
Z Direction Steel Plates are tested for through-thickness (Z-axis) tensile performance to prevent lamellar tearing in T-joints and cruciform welded connections. Always request Mill Test Certificates (MTC) for Z-direction results when placing orders.
