409L VS 409 Stainless Steel Plate
While similar, the “L” in 409L is critical. Understanding the difference helps in selecting the right material for your application.
Grade 409 (UNS S40900): The original grade, offers good heat resistance.
Grade 409L (UNS S40910（Ti）): The “L” stands for “Low Carbon.” This lower carbon content improves weldability and reduces the risk of sensitization (intergranular corrosion) at the weld seams, making it more robust for welded structures.
For most modern applications, especially those requiring extensive welding, 409L is the preferred choice.
Type 409 Stainless Steel
Type 409 stainless steel (UNS S40900) is a stable ferritic stainless steel that has better oxidation and corrosion resistance than carbon steel. Comparison 410/410s and 409L/409 Stainless Plate
