Alloy & Special Steel

  • Super austenitic stainless steel is considered to be stainless steel with a pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) greater than 40. This is usually attributed to alloys with high amounts of molybdenum, usually 6% or higher. Under solution annealing conditions, these grades have higher yield strength than austenitic grades.
  • 2507 duplex stainless steel is a kind of ferrite called super 2507 duplex stainless steel, it combines many of the most beneficial properties of ferritic steel and austenitic steel. Due to the high content of chromium and molybdenum, it has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and uniform corrosion. The dual-phase microstructure ensures that the steel has a high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and the mechanical strength is also high.
  • Precipitation hardening stainless steel was developed by the United States Steel Corporation in the 1940s. It has high strength after precipitation hardening heat treatment, plasticity and corrosion resistance is superior to other stainless steel. The most well-known precipitation hardening steel is 17-4 PH.
  • NMS-Y non-magnetic stainless steel is based on austenitic stainless steel, and the chemical composition of the product is optimized to increase the stability of austenite. Determine the element content, and adjust the production process of the product, so that the product processing performance is stable, and the elements are fully dissolved, which is harmful.
  • Monel Metal Alloy is usually sold in accordance with ISO 6208 (plate, sheet, and strip), 9723 (bar), 9724 (wire), 9725 (forging), and DIN 17751 (pipe and tube), etc. Huaxiao is one of  Monel metal alloy suppliers in China, and Huaxiao can provide free samples for your reference or you need certifications, we can send you and test them for you. For delivery, we have a larger stock of nickel based alloys, so usually is 7-20days.
  • Inconel is an alloy that contains many nickels, and it is an anti-oxidation and corrosion-resistant material, which is very suitable for use in extreme environments subject to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel will form a thick, stable passivation oxide layer to protect the surface from further erosion. Inconel maintains strength over a wide temperature range and is attractive for high-temperature applications where aluminum and steel creep due to thermally induced glass voids.
  • As stainless steel supplier, Huaxiao can provide the best stainless steel for high temperatures, we can guarantee our product quality or provide free samples of high temperature stainless for you to test. If you have any needs, please free to contact me for a quote. Materials: 310S,06Cr25Ni20, 16Cr25Ni20Si2,309S, 16Cr20Ni14Si2, 253MA, S30815,  314, 347, 436L  and other common steel grades and some special steel grades.
  • Hastelloy is a kind of nickel based alloy. Hastelloy Alloy can be divided into two groups; one contains more molybdenum and the other contains more chromium. They all have excellent resistance to strong oxidizing solutions and high durability in reducing agents. Because of the low carbon content and less carbide precipitation during welding, they also have the ability to resist intergranular corrosion.
  • Duplex Stainless Steel 2205 has twice the compressive strength of austenitic stainless steel, allowing designers to reduce their weight compared to 316L and 317L. The 2205 alloy is especially suitable for use in the -50° F/ + 600° F temperature range and can be used for lower temperatures under severe restrictions.

Description of Alloy & Special Steel

What is Alloy Steel?

Alloy steel is a type of steel that contains other elements in addition to iron and carbon. The term “alloy” refers to the mixture of various metals or elements to enhance specific properties of the steel, such as strength, hardness, toughness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. The alloying elements are typically added in varying proportions to achieve the desired mechanical and physical properties.

Common alloying elements in alloy steel include:

  1. Chromium: Adds corrosion resistance, hardness, and wear resistance.
  2. Nickel: Improves toughness, strength, and corrosion resistance.
  3. Manganese: Enhances hardenability, strength, and wear resistance.
  4. Molybdenum: Increases strength, hardness, and resistance to corrosion and high temperatures.
  5. Vanadium: Enhances strength, toughness, and impact resistance.
  6. Silicon: Improves strength and corrosion resistance.
  7. Copper: Adds corrosion resistance.

Alloy steels can be broadly categorized into two main types:

  1. Low-Alloy Steels: These contain a small percentage of alloying elements, usually less than 5%. They are often used for structural applications and can offer improved strength without sacrificing flexibility.
  2. High-Alloy Steels: These contain more alloying elements, such as chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. High-alloy steels are designed to provide specific properties, such as corrosion resistance, heat resistance, or high strength.

Alloy steels are widely used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, construction, oil and gas, and manufacturing, where specific performance requirements are needed. The choice of alloying elements and their proportions depends on the intended application and the desired properties of the final product.

What is Special Steel?

“Special steel” is a broad term that is often used to refer to steel alloys with specific characteristics or properties tailored for particular applications. These steels are designed to meet stringent requirements that go beyond the typical properties of carbon steel. Special steels may have enhanced mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, wear resistance, or other specialized features to suit specific industrial needs. The term encompasses a wide range of steel grades and types.

Here are some examples of special steels and their characteristics:

  1. Tool Steel: Designed for use in the manufacture of tools. Tool steels typically have high hardness, wear resistance, and heat resistance, making them suitable for cutting, drilling, and forming operations.
  2. Stainless Steel: Known for its corrosion resistance, stainless steel contains chromium, which forms a protective oxide layer on the surface. Different grades of stainless steel offer varying levels of corrosion resistance, strength, and heat resistance.
  3. High-Speed Steel (HSS): This type of steel is designed for cutting tools, such as drills and milling cutters, that operate at high speeds. HSS retains its hardness and cutting ability at elevated temperatures.
  4. Alloy Tool Steel: Combines alloying elements like chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, and tungsten to achieve specific properties such as hardness, toughness, and wear resistance.
  5. Spring Steel: Known for its ability to return to its original shape after deformation, spring steel is used in the manufacture of springs and elastic components. It often has high yield strength and good fatigue resistance.
  6. High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) Steel: Designed to provide high strength and improved mechanical properties while maintaining good weldability. Commonly used in structural applications.
  7. Maraging Steel: A type of high-strength steel alloy with excellent toughness and relatively low carbon content. Marging steel is often used in aerospace and other high-performance applications.
  8. Nitriding Steel: Specifically formulated for nitriding, a surface-hardening process that enhances wear resistance. Nitriding steels typically contain alloying elements like chromium, molybdenum, and aluminum.

The term “special steel” can be somewhat subjective, as it may refer to steel alloys tailored for specific industries or applications. The choice of special steel depends on the intended use and the specific performance requirements of the end product.
