Type 444 is comparable to Type 304 in many corrosive environments, with a lower coefficient of expansion and better thermal conductivity. It has excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking compared to Types 304 and 316. It resists oxidation and creeps at high temperatures, making it the material of choice for the most demanding applications in automotive exhaust.

444 Stainless Steel Properties
The yield strength of stainless steel 444 is equivalent to 1.5 times that of carbon steel and 6 times that of FRP. It has outstanding performance in earthquake resistance, snow resistance, wind pressure resistance, and stamping resistance. 444 ferritic stainless steel has high thermal conductivity, about 130%-150% of that of chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, making it ideal for heat exchange applications.
The thermal expansion coefficient is small, and the subunit is only 60%-70% of the chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel. It is very suitable for use without deformation under thermal expansion and cold contraction, thermal cycling conditions. This steel has good plasticity and toughness and is suitable for deep drawing, forming, and stamping.
